Radio Stories
THE MAKING OF MY PROGRAMS
I heard the Lord say “WRITE!” and suddenly I knew what to do: write short stories and put them on the radio. A small station agreed to air them and to teach me the business. When I ran out of money I called to break my contract. The station manager held an emergency board meeting and they decided I could be on their station for free because I was reaching the lost. Only God could plan such a beginning!
Some Pastors in California invited me to tell my stories to their church. The wife took me to her live, local radio broadcast. Having never been involved with live radio I sat quietly observing, when the station manager pulled a microphone into my face.
I said, “What’s this for?”
She looked at me quizzically and said, “You’re our featured guest today.”
I said, “I am?”
She asked, “Have you ever been on live radio?”
With unmasked fear I cried, “Noooo!”
She said, “You’ll LOVE it! We’re on in 30 seconds.”
So for one hour I told my stories. Afterward the station manager said, “We loved those. Could we air them every week for free?”
The words ‘for free’ sounded really good to me and I said yes. She asked, “You don’t know who we are, do you.”
I said this was a local station. She laughed, “No. We beam our signal to our mother station in Australia and they beam our programs to two thirds of the world.” Only God could arrange that!
When I moved back to France I asked friends to translate my programs. They recorded them and put music and sound effects behind Jeanne’s voice. Phil told me not to worry about a thing, that when they were finished they would present me with a CD containing all four stories. One night he handed me the finished product and kissing me on each cheek, he left. I put the CD in my player and sat down to listen.
The melodious sounds of Jeanne’s reading, the impromptu, glorious music gliding behind that silken voice accentuating the action, the precise sound effects punctuating the story, absolutely overwhelmed me. My little apartment reverberated with sounds resembling a concert hall and I slid off the couch until I sat on the floor, tears dripping onto the carpet; they had made my work beautiful!
Another friend gave me the names and addresses of 18 Christian radio stations. I sent CDs to all 18 stations, hoping that one or two would accept them. I waited and then called the 18 stations. 16 of them enthusiastically said “YES!” and they didn’t charge me for air time! The other two only did music.
Now I have hundreds of stories which are heard on 45 French stations, five of which are internet. Millions hear them! Please pray for the listeners’ response to the Gospel.
